Kokeshi Dolls 2:Jean Lockwood

Dear Yoko,

Thank you so much for the web site. Yes, those are the dolls I saw on the ones I found. They are really interesting.

I had intended to respond to one of your earlier messages, but got sidetracked. In one of those messages, you speculated that because the US is about 25 times bigger than that of Japan it might be one reason why we use computers so much.

Well, not exactly. I think the widespread use of computers here is due to our love of new technology and the emphasis we have put on such use in the schools. However, the vast size of the US is, I think, largely responsible for our dependence on the automobile. Our country is 3000 miles from east to west, and about 2500 miles from north to south. We do not have really good public transportation in many places, and we often have to drive long distances to work. It's quicker and easier to drive.

I wasn't in my 50's when I learned computers; I started in 1961 when I was about 35. First I learned to be a programmer then about 1970 I decided to change to writing manuals which I liked better.

Yoko, I get a kick out of the fact that you are a senior, but are about the age of my two oldest children who are 50 and 53. I said once that when your kids are senior citizens, what does that make you? I just refuse to think about it.

Thanks again for the URL. I appreciate it.
