Hello to all our new Japanese friends:Bernie Brown

Our weather this six or seven days has become very hot with the humidity also very high. One morning it was 100 percent and has been 60 - 80 percent almost every day since our very hot weather began. August always seems to be very hot.

We have our State Fair from August 25 until September 4. This is a very large celebration and one where people bring their best farm animals, such as pigs, sheep, cattle and chickens to be judged and win prizes. People also bring in their best home grown produce such as, tomatoes, corn, peas, beans, carrots, pumpkins, squash, onions etc. which are also judged. There is also a judging for home made cooking items such as pies, cakes, cookies, breads, and canned vegetables, fruits and pickles. Then there is the judging of home made garments and other hand sewing. This is a very interesting time to be able to view all these wonderful exhibits and to see the creative work and skill of the people that created all these things. Beside these exhibits there are fun rides for both children and adults such as a ferrish wheel, a roller coaster, etc. There are many items of food to be purchased and eaten. Some of the favorites are: cheese curds, mini donuts, pronto pups (which are hot dogs that have been dipped in a batter similar to tempura and then deep fried) as well as french fried potatoes, ice cream, candies and many, many other items. People come from all over the state of Minnesota as well as the surrounding states. Some people are there every day. It is a lot of fun for everyone. Besides all of the things I have alread mentioned, there are exhibits of farm machinery and new cars. I don't go every year but perhaps I will next year.

I want to say how much I am enjoying hearing from all of you and also hearing from the other Americans that write of things happening in their part of the country.

Have a nice day and good health to all of you.

An American Pen Pal,

Bernie Brown
