Article on Fran Ollweiler: Yoko Yamasaki

Hello Fran Ollweiler and all American penpals, this is Yoko. How are you these days ?

I think most of you are away on the summer vacation because there are few messages posted these days.

In the U.S. I believe it is common for people to go on a long-term trip (1 month or so) by car in summer and/or winter. In Japan, a trip for only one week is likely to be envied as a LONG vacation.

Here, I introduce an article of the NEWSWEEK JAPAN (5/17/2000) in which Fran Ollweiler of Delaware State appears. The magazine carries a picture of Fran smiling happily by the IMAC, and the picture is 2/3 the size of an A-4 page.

So as not to violate the copyright, I provide a summary of the article as follows ;
Fran bought the first Macintosh at 60 years old in 1988. One year later, she started the computer communication obtaining a modem. Then, she has enrolled in the SeniorNet, and worked as discussion leaders of groups on religion and travel.

Recently, she has newly organized a discussion group consisting of people who use PALM (the portable information terminal). Her favorite is the MP3 which enables her to download musics. Her husband George, and most of her friends have no interest in the computer.

The above is a summary of the article on Fran Ollweiler. Besides, the magazine carries several articles on how seniors in the U.S. are enjoying the Internet.

Fran, You must be a lady of challenging spirit, I suppose. Please let me know if the above introduction is correct or not. Regards, Yoko.
